President Barack Obama began his fundraising tour of California with a private meeting at the home of DreamWorks Animation chief Jeffrey Katzenberg and about 12 major Hollywood donors.
Former President Bill Clinton was on hand to assist the president with donor relations.
White House Traveling Press Secretary Jen Psaki described the meeting as a “thank-you event.”
“We have actually done meetings or events with high-dollar donors who have maxed out or contributed a high amount to the campaign around other events before, Psaki said. “So this is one of those events; it’s a thank-you event for a small group of donors.”
The elite gathering was closed to the press, and the Obama campaign declined to provide a transcript or guest list.
Later in the day at an evening fundraiser Obama openly expressed his gratitude to the Katzenbergs.
“The other person that I want to acknowledge in particular — because I said this to them privately, I’ve got to say it publicly — Jeffrey and Marilyn Katzenberg have been - - they have been tireless and stalwart and have never wavered through good times and bad since my first presidential race, back when a lot of people still couldn’t pronounce my name. And I will always be grateful to them for just the incredible support that they’ve given. So thank you very much. Thanks, both of you.”
Katzenberg donated $2 million to the pro-Obama super PAC, Priorities USA Action, and also co-hosted the record setting George Clooney fundraising dinner, which raised $15 million.
