A new poll by JZ Analytics reveals that replacing Joe Biden with Hillary Clinton as President Barack Obama’s running mate would not provide the big boost that Democrats might hope for.

The survey of more than 1,000 likely voters shows the Obama/Biden ticket tied with Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan at 46 percent, while an Obama/Clinton ticket would give the campaign an increase of only one percentage point, 47 percent to 45 percent.

Hillary provide the Democrats with a surprisingly small boost among women, just 3 percentage points, giving the ticket a 48 percent to 45 percent lead, while Obama/Biden trails Romney/Ryan 46 to 45 percent among women.

Adding Clinton to the ticket has virtually no effect among Democratic or Republican voters, but it does kick up the Democratic ticket by 2.3 percentage points among independent voters.

Hillary gives the Democrats a boost among voters in swing states, cutting the GOP’s edge in half from eight points to four points, and among voters in the so-called creative class, where Clinton turns a 51-to-41-point lead into a 54-to-40-point edge.

Curiously, Clinton gives the Obama campaign a significant 11-point rise among Asian voters compared to a Biden ticket, and a 10-point boost among voters classified by race as “Other.”

“This is barely a blip on the screen, but Hillary Clinton does strengthen the Democratic ticket somewhat,” said John Zogby, managing director of JZ Analytics.

“It is not the ‘nuclear option’ I anticipated.”
