Two people were killed and more than 50 injured after a New York City explosion ripped through a building in East Harlem Wednesday, causing the six-story unit to collapse.

It's not yet clear what caused the explosion, but it took down a six-story apartment building on 116th Street and Park around 9:30 a.m., the New York Post reported.

"The whole building shook," a worker at the nearby Tulcingo Travel on Lexington Avenue told the Post. "I think people must be injured. I see a lot of smoke."

According to The Associated Press, more than 50 people were injured.

Metro North train service out of Grand Central Terminal was temporarily suspended, potentially stranding hundreds of thousands of commuters.

The New York City building explosion and collapse comes just a week after a massive gas explosion killed one and injured seven at a condominium complex in Ewing, N.J.
