NFL Moves Season Opener to Oblige Obama

By Marti Lotman   |   Wednesday, 29 Feb 2012 10:54 AM

The National Football League doesn’t want to ruffle any feathers in the White House, announcing Tuesday that it will move its September season-opening game to avoid a scheduling conflict with President Barack Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention, CNN reports.

Obama is scheduled to speak on Thursday, September 6, in Charlotte, N.C. — the same night the NFL originally planned to hold its kickoff game.

The league has agreed that the Super Bowl champion New York Giants will now host the game on Wednesday, September 5 at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey, the evening before the president’s speech. The Giants’ opponent has not yet been announced.
