A fifth-generation Apple iPad reportedly is slated for a summer release date, and leaked photos of the purported new design are making the Internet rounds.
Sources with a Taiwan-based supply chains tell DigiTimes
that the newest iPad will feature a 9.7-inch screen, a thinner and lighter design, and a slimmer bezel, similar to the one on the iPad mini. Photos posted on the French blog Nowhereelse.fr
confirmed the new design, but Apple hasn't authenticated the pictures.
Other photos of a new iPad back shell casing circulated earlier this year, kicking off the chatter that Apple was planning a big redesign. iLounge tech writer Jeremy Horwitz had the opportunity to inspect a physical model in January.

"It’s a lot smaller than one would guess was possible: in portrait orientation, picture a 9.7-inch screen with virtually no left or right bezels, and only enough space above and below the screen to accommodate the mandatory camera and Home Button elements," Horwitz wrote. "The fifth-generation iPad will be smaller in every dimension than its predecessors. As it will have the same chamfered edges and curves, calling it a 'stretched iPad mini' is very close to entirely accurate."
Though rumors swirled that a new iPad would debut this month, it appears the iPad 5 would launch sometime between July and August, sources told DigiTimes.
"Volume production of the fifth-generation 9.7-inch iPad will kick off in July-August 2013, according to sources with Taiwan-based supply chain. Yield rates for key components, especially touch panels, will be a major concern for smooth production," writes Max Wang for DigiTimes.

MacRumors points out that although Apple usually debuts its new products during the first few months of the year, the tech giant seems to be bucking that trend lately. For example, the fourth-generation iPad went on sale in November 2012.
