Former South African President Nelson Mandela remained in critical condition for the second day Monday, sparking an outpouring of support on social media.

Mandela, 94, has been in the hospital since June 8 trying to recover from a recurring lung infection.

"Doctors are doing everything possible to ensure his well-being and comfort," South African President Jacob Zuma said at a news conference Sunday in Johannesburg.

President Barack Obama will reportedly go through with his planned visit to South Africa this week, despite Mandela's hospitalization, according to CNN.

Mandela, the revolutionary politician who helped end apartheid in his country, has not been seen in public since South Africa hosted the World Cup in 2010.

Public figures, celebrities, and people from all over expressed their support for Mandela on Twitter as news of his worsened condition spread.
