Neil Patrick Harris: 'Inevitable' Marriage Ahead to Partner David Burtka

Wedding plans for Neil Patrick Harris and his longtime partner are 'inevitable,' the actor says, following the Supreme Court ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act.

Harris has been engaged to David Burtka for seven years, and the actor told E! News on Sunday, “Certainly, we have children and marriage is an appropriate thing to do [as] a part of their well-being, so I’m sure it will be inevitable — and awesome!”

Through a surrogate, the couple had twins Gideon and Harper in 2010.

When the Supreme Court wiped out DOMA last week, ruling the act unconstitutional, and shot down California’s Prop 8, it opened opportunities for gay couples to wed in the 12 states that have legalized same-sex marriages.

Harris called the ruling “logical,” and told E!, “If you look at public opinion polls, everyone, the majority of people, are very for people that fall in love with each other being able to own that.”

On a live interview with the Los Angeles Times, Harris resisted making elaborate comments on the Supreme Court’s decision, but said, “I think the Supreme Court spoke pretty well themselves. It’s certainly a good day for equality on a whole bunch of different levels, and Huzzah!”

While the marriage may be inevitable, Harris told E! that there are still some kinks to work out, including where the wedding will be held. And in the LA Times interview, he said he had “no real plans to get married today.”

Like Harris and Burtka, other stars may now be looking to walk down the aisle, and not all of them are gay couples. Numerous celebrity couples said they wouldn’t get married until their gay friends could.

The Houston Chronicle took a look at which couples may decide to marry now, and they included Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, TV star Ted Allen and Barry Rice, Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell, and Melissa Etheridge and Linda Wallem.
