National Pancake Day is here and, in honor of the recently founded celebration aimed at promoting the consumption of the cherished breakfast food, the International House of Pancakes (IHOP) is giving away free short stacks Tuesday morning.
Though the short stack of pancakes is free, recipients are asked to make a donation of their choosing to the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals or another designated local charity. Since IHOP began National Pancake Day in 2006, it has raised more than $13 million
for charities at its more than 1,500 locations across the country, according to its website
The only catch to the offer is that customers are limited to one stack each and they are only served free between 7 and 10 a.m.

The Children's Miracle Network Hospitals charity, which is the primary recipient of IHOP's fundraiser, benefits medical facilities for children and has a history of keeping funds in the same communities they are raised.
For the first time this year, the family-friendly restaurant chain will be expanding its charitable National Pancake Day program at store locations in Canada, Puerto Rico, and Mexico, MyFoxPhilly.com reported
National Pancake Day coincidentally falls the day before Ash Wednesday, which is better known as Shrove Tuesday or Fat Tuesday — "Mardi Gras" in French.
In Catholic tradition, the consumption of dairy products was not acceptable during Lent. So, before the days of refrigeration, devout Catholics needed an excuse to get rid of all their eggs, butter, and milk. Pancake Day was born.
Of course pancakes aren't the only food that has its own national day.
