The Egyptian government has officially labeled the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist group and said it will punish anyone in the organization, which was responsible for a bombing this week that killed 16 people.
A government official announced the decision on television, also adding that anyone offering the group financial support will be punished.

“The government reiterates that there will be no return to the past under any circumstances and Egypt, the state and the people, will never succumb to the terrorism of the Muslim Brotherhood whose crimes have gone far beyond all moral, religious and human limits," Hossam Issa said, CNN reported
Supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood protested in Egyptian streets after Issa’s announcement, many crying “Sisi is a traitor,” in reference to the country’s leader, Gen. Abdel Fatah El Sisi, CNN said.
On its Facebook page, the Muslim Brotherhood called the government the “terrorist coup authorities” and said the coup itself, which was led by the Tamarod group and overthrew President Mohamed Morsi in July, was “terrorism,” CNN said.
Tamarod issued a statement supporting the government’s declaration, CNN said.
"The government's decision announcing the Brotherhood group a terrorist organization is a good step, and it came late but better to come late than never," Tamarod said.
The Washington Post called the government’s declaration a “stunning blow
to the decades-old Islamist organization, which survived for years in the shadows and in prison cells under then-President Hosni Mubarak but reached the height of political power after his ouster in the 2011 uprising.”
The decision to name the Brotherhood a terrorist group extends the government’s ability to fight them. Legal experts told The Washington Post that the decree would close down charities and organizations affiliated with the opposition group, and said some of those offer services like health care in parts of the country.
