Budget Director Mick Mulvaney said climate change research was a “waste of your money” during a news conference Thursday defending President Donald Trump’s budget, which included many cuts to domestic programs.
“I think the president is fairly straightforward. We’re not spending money on that anymore,” Mulvaney said during a press briefing Thursday.
Trump has repeatedly said he believes climate change is a hoax, and last week his EPA chief Scott Pruitt said that in his view, carbon dioxide is not a primary contributor to global warming.
In commenting further, Mulvaney said of climate change research funding, “We consider that to be a waste of your money to go out and do that,” saying the cut was a “specific tie to his campaign,” according to The Hill.
Many on the left were predictably outraged over Mulvaney’s words, and expressed their dismay on Twitter. On the right, folks couldn’t be happier.
Trump’s budget proposes to cut the EPA by 31 percent, and some cuts in the State Department were also related to climate change.
