A pregnant North Carolina mom drove her van into the waves of the ocean — with her three children in the vehicle — just hours after reportedly talking about demons to her family members.

Ebony Wilkerson, 32, was stopped by Daytona Beach Police after they received a call from her sister expressing concern for that Wilkerson was acting strangely, WESH TV reported.

Police told WESH the pregnant mom didn’t say anything that would have given officers a reason to take her into custody. Instead, she told police that she was taking her children to a “safe place” to keep them safe from her ex-husband.

About two hours later, Wilkerson drove the van into the waves.

Rescuers ran to help, first pulling out two children, ages 9 and 10.

Tim Tesseneer was one of the first people to approach the van. He told WESH the two kids in the back seat were crying and saying, “Our mommy’s trying to kill us please help.”

After getting the older kids out, Tesseneer said Wilkerson didn’t say anything about a 3-year-old still in the car.

"The kids are like, 'No there's a baby. There's a baby,'" he told WESH. "She (the mother) wouldn't say a word. She didn't tell us nothing about a baby."

Another man at Daytona Beach saw Wilkerson drive the van into the water and ran to try to stop her.

“The son was snatching at the wheel, trying to get her to come back toward the shore and I was asking ... 'What is going on, why are you driving on the water?' I said, 'you're going to get in trouble ... you're not supposed to be doing this,'" Stacy Robinson told ABC News.

Police told WESH TV that Wilkerson is in the hospital and will have a mental health evaluation. The three children were taken into state custody and will be released to relatives pending background checks.
