The boyfriend of country singer Mindy McCready apparently shot and killed himself Sunday night in the couple's Arkansas home.
David Wilson, 34, was found with a gunshot wound after emergency services responded to a call from the home near Heber Springs, Mail Online reported. He was transported to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead at 8 p.m.
An investigation into the death is continuing.
A record producer and songwriter, Wilson was the father of McCready's two children, Zander and Zayne.
"Today, we mourn the loss of my life partner and my children's father, David Wilson," McCready said in a statement. "David was my soulmate; he was a caregiver and guiding hand to our sons, Zander and Zayne."
In 2011, McCready made news as a protracted custody battle ended when authorities found her hiding in the closet of the Arkansas house. Her son Zander was taken out of her arms and placed into foster care.
At the time, McCready's mother and stepfather had legal custody of Zander, due to McCready's ongoing struggles with drug addiction. Her parents owned the house and neither she nor Wilson were legally allowed to be there. Now, a relative of Wilson has the legal claim to the property where the couple lived.
Since her 1996 smash success with the song "Ten Thousand Angels," McCready consistently battled legal issues, including a 2005 drunk driving arrest, probation violations, and getting into a physical altercations with her mother.
McCready's website makes no attempt to hide these facts. "Although she was arrested and jailed for trying to buy OxyContin with a false prescription," it says, "and attempted suicide with an overdose of drugs and alcohol, Mindy believes her only true addiction is to violent relationships."
