"American Pie" actress Mena Suvari is the latest star to get in on what seems to be a growing trend of awesomely awkward celebrity Christmas cards.

Suvari's card, which she shared on social media this week, shows her and boyfriend Sal Sanchez decked out in ugly holiday sweaters with their cat Blanca. The '80s-themed portrait also features another photo of the cat floating above their heads in the background.

Suvari isn’t the only star to unveil a funny card this year. "American Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson also tweeted out her family's card this week. In it, Santa has tied up Clarkson, her new husband Brandon Blackstock, and his two kids from a previous relationship with a string of Christmas lights and wrapping paper.

Though some people applauded the creativity of the card, others said they didn’t get it.

"It's unclear, however, if Clarkson and her family are merely wrapped up in decorations for fun, or if Santa has tied them up and is holding them hostage," Time's Samantha Grossman wrote Wednesday. "Or possibly holding onto some kind of explosive device, powered by Christmas lights, that will destroy them should they try and escape. And that’s what makes the photo truly awkward."
