The long-awaited McLaren P1 car that combines hybrid technology with Formula 1-like power is in the hands of the first owner and no one is disappointed in the car’s promise, Yahoo News reported
The P1 concept was introduced at a 2012 car show, but it wasn’t until the October deliveries of the $1.15 million car that performance results were announced. The twin turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine shoots the car from 0 to 217 mph in just 16.5 seconds, Yahoo said. It tops McLaren’s F1, which took 22 seconds to make it from 0 to 186 mph.

Digital Trends called the car “clinically insane”
in its headline and compared its speed to others like the Ferrari 458 Italia, which goes from 0 to 180 in 32.4 seconds (double the P1). “Simply put,” the magazine said, “McLaren P1 is one of the fastest accelerating cars in the world.”
The car stops fast, too, going from 62 mph to a stop in 100 feet. Along with a sportscar exterior that would make anyone drool, the hybrid gets 34 miles to the gallon.
With such an enormous price tag on the bundle of speed, McLaren will only make 375 of the cars, Yahoo said. It takes 17 days to make each car.
As word of the P1’s excellent speeds zipped around the internet, a few mourned the idea that they would never have one.
Bet the P1 shows up on a few Christmas lists this year.
