Democratic congressman Mike McIntyre is steadfastly refusing to endorse President Barack Obama in the upcoming presidential election.
McIntyre, who represents a district in southeast North Carolina — the state where the Democratic National Convention will be held — repeatedly stonewalls when asked, WECT, the NBC affiliate in Wilmington, N.C., reported in a video posted on YouTube on Saturday.
“It is not about a party agenda or any other person’s agenda. Our focus is on the congressional race in eastern North Carolina,” McIntyre responded in the video.
The news anchor says her station has been asking McIntyre if he would endorse Obama. “He hasn’t answered that question,” she says.
McIntyre, a three-term congressman, is a member of the centrist Democrat Blue Dog Coalition. He won the seat with less than 54 percent of the vote in 2010.
The National Republican Congressional Committee has targeted his seat and plans to spend at least $800,000 in trying to defeat him in November when he will face a challenge from Republican state Sen. David Rouzer.
