An Indiana couple OD'd on heroin at a McDonald’s play yard after bringing two young children there. The overdoses caused the pair to collapse on the playground, and after medical treatment they arrested by police for child endangerment.

According to the Indianapolis Star, Tamica Lynn Jeffers and Robert Paul Palmer are being held on bond at the Hamilton County, Ind., jail.

Palmer pleaded not guilty in court Thursday, where the judge told him to have no contact with the children when and if gets out of jail.

The two children, ages 8 and 5, were nearby at the play yard and were in the couple’s care at the time, but Jeffers' relationship to the children is unclear.

When police arrived, Jeffers wasn’t breathing and Palmer was conscious but didn’t respond, the Star said. Jeffers was taken to the hospital.

Police said the two had taken life-threatening doses of heroin, according to The Associated Press.

Heroin addiction and overdose has been in the news regularly lately, responsible in the past year for the deaths of actors Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Cory Monteith.

Attorney General Eric Holder has called heroin overdoses an urgent crisis in the country.
