Kidnapping children, locking them in a basement and raping them before eventually eating them were among the grotesque crimes a 40-year-old Boston-area man planned to carry out, according to court documents filed by federal authorities this week.

British-born Geoffrey Portway was found to be in possession of tens of thousands of child pornography images and videos on his computer, after authorities raided his home earlier this year, CNN reported.

The Worcester, Mass. resident pleaded guilty to distribution and possession of child pornography and solicitation to commit a crime of violence in May. He will be sentenced next Tuesday.

Though he did not commit any crimes, the prosecution is asking for a 27-year sentence due to the heinous nature of the acts he had planned to commit, calling them "some of the most vile and heinous crimes known to our society."

"Portway's collection is truly chilling and demonstrates a real risk based upon which the Court should sentence Portway to a substantial term of years in order to protect the public," prosecutors said.

Authorities first became aware of Portway through online chats, where he reportedly discussed his plans with two other men and engaged in some 4,500 exchanges of child pornography.

Among the pornographic images Portway shared were those of children being cooked and prepared to be eaten, court documents stated.

After authorities raided his locked basement, they found a child-sized coffin, a steel cage, a steel topped table, two freezers, disposable scalpels, butchering kits and castration tools, court documents showed, CNN reported.

The two other men Portway had discussed his plans with have since been convicted.

One was 38-year-old Michael Arnett of Kansas, a previously convicted child molester, who reportedly had photos of a 2-year-old lying in a roasting pan and sitting in an oven, the Kansas City Star reported.

He was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

The other was Ronald Brown, a 57-year-old puppeteer from Florida, who for years performed for children at birthday parties, schools and churches, had expressed his plans to rape, kill and eat them as well, according to police.

Brown was sentenced to 20 years in prison for possessing and distributing child pornography.

As a British national, Portway will likely be deported after serving his sentence, the Daily Mail reported.
