Apple may be planning to launch a MacBook Air with Retina display in the second half of this year, according to a report Tuesday.

Citing unidentified sources within the company's Taiwan-based supply chain, Digitimes says the Retina MacBook Air is on the horizon for the fall, and would be one of several new models. No other specifics about the machine were shared.

A Retina MacBook Air would be a welcome addition to the MacBook Pro line, despite a higher price point than existing MacBook Air models. Two Retina MacBook Pro versions are currently available, one with a 13-inch 2,560x1,600-pixel display and one with a 15-inch 2,880x1,800-pixel screen.

An earlier report from BGR.com suggested Apple was developing a 12-inch MacBook Air with a Retina display and a new trackpad.

Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple is frequently in the news over their latest gadgets, which often are developed under close security. Earlier this week, it was reported that the company was in talks with Comcast Corp. on a streaming television.

Last month, Mizuho Securities analyst Abhey Lamba said the Apple iPhone 6 could be released in July, earlier than the usual September or October unveilings of new products.
