Actor Lou Ferrigno, aka The Incredible Hulk, was in fact not killed in a gruesome car accident as hoaxers on the internet would have you believe.

The former Mr. Universe, now 62, took to Facebook to say as much in a recorded video on Wednesday, confirming that he is alive and well, and thanking fans for their concern. An update was also added to FerrignoLegacy.com, saying "Lou Ferrigno is alive and well! Silly internet..."

According to the International Business Times, the rumors stemmed from a fake USA Today website, which carried an equally fake story about his demise.

"Reports say beloved Lou Ferrigno was killed in a multi-vehicle crash between Santa Barbara and Goleta," the page read. "He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics responding to the vehicle accident and was identified by photo ID found on his body. Witnesses say a blue Ford F150 was seen driving recklessly just before the accident and was also seen speeding away after the accident."

"A spokesperson for the Santa Barbaria Police Dept. told reporters that Mr. Ferrigno's vehicle rolled several times killing him instantly. They did not have a cause of the accident as of yet."

As is usually the case with celebrity death hoaxes, the link spread through social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, and many took it to be a real story.

Ferrigno is just the latest public figure to fall victim to a death hoax in a long line that includes Jennifer Lopez, John Bon Jovi, and Jared the Subway spokesman — whose been killed several times by the internet.

Hoax-Slayer.com reported that the Ferrigno instance was "just a hoax" but warned that "some fake death messages contain links to rogue apps, malware websites or survey scams. If one of these death messages comes your way, do not click any links that it contains."
