The parents of Lindsay Lohan reportedly plan to sue Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy over a derogatory comment he made about their daughter during a hearing.

The comment came during a Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee hearing as senators questioned former Equifax CEO Richard Smith about the recent hack that exposed 145 million people’s personal information.

When asking about the $7.25 million no-bid contract the company won recently to verify taxpayers’ personal identities, Kennedy said, “You realize to many Americans right now, that looks like we’re giving Lindsay Lohan the keys to the minibar.”

Smith responded to the comment by saying, “I understand your point.”

The contract could allow Equifax to benefit from the hack, according to experts.

According to an exclusive report by Gossip Cop, 31-year-old Lohan’s parents have gotten a lawyer and are planning to sue Kennedy for his “slanderous comments” about their daughter.

Lohan, a former child actress for movies such as Disney’s "The Parent Trap" and "Mean Girls," has struggled publicly with addiction since becoming an adult and also has been accused of shoplifting.

“Dina and I are seeking legal counsel for Lindsay regarding the slanderous comments and unprofessional behavior of Senator John Kennedy,” Michael Lohan told Gossip Cop. “His comment and analogy was inappropriate, slanderous and unwarranted.” Michael Lohan also asked the Republican senator whether he had a family member with previous addiction struggles.

As The Washington Post points out, it is typically difficult to convict someone of slander over a joke, especially when many similar jokes have been made about Lohan by comedians and others over the years.
