Two radicalized Muslim converts in Britain were found guilty Thursday in the hacking death of British soldier Lee Rigby in a brutal midday incident in front of onlookers in May.

Prosecutors accused Michael Adebolajo, 29, and Michael Adebowale, 22, of striking Rigby with a car and then hacking up his unconscious body with knives and a meat cleaver in an attempt to behead him, according to NBC News.

During the brutal crime, Adebolajo asked a bystander to video them as he explained what he had done.

"We swear by almighty Allah we will never stop fighting you," Adebolajo told the camera. "The only reason we've killed this man today is because Muslims are dying daily by British soldiers. He is an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth."

The Muslim Council of Britain Secretary General Farooq Murad told NBC News that the soldier's murder was "a dishonorable act," and that there is "No cause (that) justifies cold-blooded murder. Muslim communities then, as now, were united in their condemnation of this crime."

Rigby's family members sobbed quietly as the verdict was read.

"I would like to thank everyone who has helped us to finally get justice for Lee," Rigby's widow, Rebecca Rigby, said after the verdict. "This has been the toughest time of our lives and no one should have to go through what we have been through as a family. These people have taken away my baby's dad but Lee's memory lives on through our son and we will never forget him."

ITV.com reported that Juliet Adebowale, Michael Adebowale's mother, said she believed the older Adebolajo lured her son into the crime and caught him at a vulnerable time.

"He had known Adebolajo since they went on a march at the end of March. I still can't comprehend what happened, what got into his head," Juliet Adebowale said. "It was so out of character, he was very vulnerable. When people are vulnerable the evil ones will lure them. That poor, poor family (has) lost a son, but so have I."
