The body of Leanne Bearden, the Colorado woman who went missing nearly a month ago, was discovered this week in the woods behind a home in Texas.

Bearden, 33, was last seen Jan. 17 when she left a relative's house in Garden Ridge, Texas, to go for a run. She was never seen again.

Police announced Thursday that an area resident had reported finding a body behind their home. Though autopsy results are pending, a law enforcement official said the deceased woman was wearing a ring identical to one Bearden always wore, according to The Denver Post.

"We will reserve any information regarding the cause of death until an autopsy has been performed," city police Chief Donna O'Conner told CNN. "Our thoughts are with the Bearden and Hecht families and [we] ask that you respect them in their time of grief."

Prior to her disappearance, Bearden and her husband, Josh Bearden, had spent nearly two years traveling the world. Among the many adventures chronicled on her personal blog, Bearden detailed climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, going swimming in the Dead Sea, and attending an Indian wedding.

Bearden reportedly had a tough time getting back into normal, everyday life after her trip abroad, her family said.

"The pressure of transitioning from her two-year trip back into what we consider 'normal' life seems to have left her very anxious and stressed," they told CNN.

Despite evidence that Bearden may have run away voluntarily, police said they have not yet ruled out foul play.

"Our family is understandably devastated by the news of the recovery of the remains of our beloved Leanne. We wish to thank the myriad of people who helped us search for Leanne, and who helped support us throughout this entire nightmare," the Bearden family said in a statement this week.

"Although this is not the outcome we had hoped for, we draw comfort and strength from the outpouring of prayers, actions, and good wishes from all — including over 20,000 Facebook friends. We ask for your continued prayers and good wishes for our family. Leanne was a lovely and remarkable young woman and we will all miss her greatly."
