Actors Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard got married quietly on Thursday at the Beverly Hills County Clerk's office.

. The couple supposedly went in just for the license but came out married after a staffer offered to wed them in a nearby courtroom.

Bell, 32, and Shepard 38, made it official after a nearly four-year engagement. Shepard proposed on Christmas Day 2009, but they vowed not to marry until same-sex marriage bans were overturned nationwide.
"We've been very vocal about not wanting to be married in a state that doesn't allow that right to all of its citizens," Bell told Celebuzz in 2012
. "We'll wait until California gets on the right side of history."
When the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the Defense of Marriage Act and Proposition 8 went down in California, the wheels were set in motion, and the couple caused a flurry of activity when Bell proposed to Shepard again via Twitter.
Since "Veronica Mars" ended in 2007, Bell has had roles on shows including "Heroes," "Gossip Girl," and "House of Lies." A film adaptation of Veronica Mars is due out in 2014.
Shepard has gained notoriety as Crosby Braverman on "Parenthood."
