Louisville sophomore guard Kevin Ware's gruesome leg break during Sunday's Elite Eight game against Duke sparked an outpouring of support and prayers on social media as #PrayforWare quickly topped the trending lists.

Ware landed awkwardly after attempting to contest a 3-point shot in the first half of the Midwest Regional game in Indianapolis Sunday. The Cardinals sitting on the bench all recoiled in horror as Ware lay on the court screaming in agony, and many of the players looked as though they may be sick. Others openly wept, tears streaming down their faces.

Michael Bush, the Louisville footballer whose Heisman hopes were shot down after he sustained a similar injury in 2006, expressed his sympathy for Ware.

"I just cried. I feel so bad. ‪#flashback of myself. Anyone if he needs anything please let me know. ‪#teamware."

CBS even stopped airing the replay of the injury because of its gruesome nature.

Before Ware was taken away on a stretcher, he reportedly called his teammates over for a pep talk. CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson said he told the rest of the Louisville players, "Don't worry about me. I'll be OK. You guys go win this thing."

Louisville went on to beat Duke 85-63.

The horrific injury immediately sparked tons of tweets.

Ware was transported to Methodist Hospital near Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis and underwent surgery Sunday night when doctors reset the bone and inserted a metal rod into his tibia.

Ware's teammates and Louisville staffers are now waiting to find out when he will return to campus and whether he will be able to travel with the team to Atlanta for the Final Four later this week against Wichita St.
