Kevin Schnurr needs a kidney, and hopefully he'll get one soon as his story has gone viral. Schnurr captured media attention with his Facebook page cover photo that spoofs a popular song: “Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy, I need a kidney, donate maybe?”

Kevin Schnurr, a graphic designer from New York, was diagnosed with Alport syndrome, a hereditary disease that means he needs a kidney transplant, ABC News reported. He’s been on dialysis for 11 months, and decided it was time to call on his talents and go after a kidney.

He created the page, Find a Kidney for Kevin, and his story is drawing attention from around the country. He’s getting so many private messages on Facebook offering to be tested that he’s taken to the page to explain: “I have over 50 DM's [direct messages] resulting from today's various viral articles. Doing my best to get back to everyone asap! THANKS for all the love and positivity!”

Schnurr told ABC News that he’s an only child of two only children, so there aren’t many family members to ask to be tested for a kidney match. His parents can’t donate because of medical issues.

“We're not even a family tree," he told ABC. "We're like a family shrub."

Schnurr spends 10 hours on dialysis every night, ABC said.

While Schnurr has received numerous positive responses to his plea, there are many naysayers out there too. He posted one of the comments on his Facebook page: “Best comment I've seen on my articles so far: ‘I think its a bit much to ask a stranger to greatly risk and maybe shorten their lives so you can lengthen yours a little bit....if you don't have any family that can do it then just accept your reality.’ LOLOLOL That is all. –Kevin”
