Kenneka Jenkins, a missing teen, was found dead in a hotel freezer in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont on Sunday.

The 19-year-old’s body was found inside a walk-in freezer a day after she was reported missing after last being seen early Saturday at a party at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, CBS News reported.

She was pronounced dead at 12:48 am on Sunday although exact cause of death is yet to be established, the Chicago Tribune reported. It was uncertain whether foul play is suspected.

Jenkins' mother, Tereasa Martin, told the Chicago Tribune that police believed her daughter had let herself into the freezer "while inebriated."

Martin added that she was having difficulty understanding exactly what had happened to her daughter.

"I’m horrified," she told The Tribune. "It's something that no one could ever imagine. It's unbelievable."

Martin explained that her daughter left home on Friday evening to attend a party at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O'Hare Hotel and Conference Center.

At around 4 a.m. Saturday she received a call from one of her daughter’s friends who said they were unable to find Jenkins.

Martins proceeded to the hotel to look for her daughter while Jenkins' older sister, Leonore Harris, filed a missing person’s report at the Rosemont Police Department.

Martin said she could not see how her daughter could have opened the heavy freezer doors if she was drunk.

"Those were double steel doors, she didn't just pop them open," she told the Tribune, adding that the outcome could have been different if police had taken her attempts to locate Jenkins more seriously.

"If they had taken me seriously and checked right away, they could have found my daughter much sooner and she might have been alive."
