Kelly Clarkson Family Christmas Photo Was Meant To Get Laughs

"American Idol" star Kelly Clarkson and her blended family had a little bit of fun with their Christmas photo this season, but some critics found the attempt at humor "awkward."

Clarkson, along with husband Brandon Blackstock, his two children and the family's two dogs, appear tangled in Christmas wrap and lights as they stare nervously at a comfortable Santa Claus in a chair sipping on a glass of milk.

Clarkson sent out the humorous photo out on Twitter Tuesday.

Samantha Grossman, of Time magazine, wrote that she didn't get it.

"It’s unclear, however, if Clarkson and her family are merely wrapped up in decorations for fun, or if Santa has tied them up and is holding them hostage," Grossman wrote on Wednesday. "Or possibly holding onto some kind of explosive device, powered by Christmas lights, that will destroy them should they try and escape. And that’s what makes the photo truly awkward."

Clarkson's fans, though, enjoyed the humorous take on the Christmas photo album.

Clarkson is pregnant with her first child with Blackstock and, judging from the Christmas photo, she is enjoying being a stepmother as well.

"Since having an opportunity to be a loving stepmother, Kelly enjoys every moment and all the joy and happiness that comes with being a parent," jeweler Johnathon Arndt, a friend of the couple, told People magazine. "Kelly loves her stepchildren with all of her heart, and that has given her even more passion to have her own children to add to the loving family. Family always comes first for both Kelly and Brandon."
