Although Olbermann’s parting with ESPN wasn’t pretty, both the sports commentator and ESPN spokespeople say their relationship today is solid, according to The New York Times
. Labeling Olbermann’s personality as being “fitfully incorrigible and occasionally contentious,” the newspaper article quoted Olbermann as saying there hasn’t been any difficulty with his return.
“No one has said to me, ‘We let you back in, now sit back and shut up.’ Instead they’ve said, ‘We’ve let you back in, now tell us everything you want and why,’” he said.
An ESPN leader said Olbermann has been “incredibly responsive” during the process of getting the show up and running, and said there had not been any rigidity in Olbermann’s approach.
The Salt Lake City Tribune questioned whether Olbermann would be able to maintain a presence on ESPN.
Calling the man a “Mount Vesuvius of TV personalities,” the article cited examples of behavior that left Olbermann out of work several times, including leaving ESPN and MSNBC.
The Tribune said Olbermann insists things will be different this time.
Whatever the future holds, Olbermann is prepping for tonight’s debut and happily Tweeting to his audience.
