Katy Perry’s $25 million deal to be a judge on the ‘American Idol’ reboot caused huge drama with fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, sources say.

An ABC source said that Perry’s deal left little for Richie and Bryan, and coupled with Ryan Seacrest’s $15 million, blew the doors off ABC’s intended talent budget for the show, Page Six reported.

The source told Page Six that CEO and President Ben Sherwood personally signed off on the deals and put the rest of the show in jeopardy. “Ben Sherwood blew the budget on Katy without thinking how that would impact other areas of the show budget,” the source said.

“He gambled on her because of her appeal to a younger audience and huge social media following.” But doing so meant the other judges would have to be paid much less.

When ABC tried to offer Bryan and Richie $2.5 million each, they balked, the source said. “As of last week, their contracts were not done,” the source continued. “Sherwood authorized ABC to cough up more money. They’re both making about $7 million each now.”

“This has become a very expensive show,” the source finished. “If ‘Idol’ doesn’t work, it will blow up big time in Sherwood’s face. If it does work, he’s a genius.”

An ABC rep denied the drama to Page Six, saying “Ben never had to get involved, and the deals were done within the original ABC talent budget for the show.”

Richie and Bryan were announced as judges on Sept. 29, touting Richie’s 40-plus years of experience in the music industry and Bryan’s 18 No. 1 hits, USA Today reported.

“In their respective genres of music, both Luke and Lionel possess insurmountable popularity and award-winning talent that are undeniable, and we are lucky that they will help in paving the way for hopefuls pursuing their dreams on our stage,” ABC program chief Channing Dungey said, USA Today reported.
