Kate Winslet explained her son's unusual name, Bear Blaze Winslet, in an interview on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Tuesday.
The 38-year-old English actress, known for her roles in "Titanic," "Revolutionary Road," and the soon-to-be-released film "Divergent," told DeGeneres that the name was chosen in part by her 13-year-old daughter Mia and 10-year-old son Joe. Both children were from her previous marriages to director Sam Mendes and Jim Threapleton, the Los Angeles Times noted

"We were thinking about names during the pregnancy and actually I had never — when I was pregnant with Mia, when I was pregnant with Joe — I didn't name them before they came out because I always felt like I had to see them and see who they're going to be," Winslet told DeGeneres. "Of course this time around, there's Mia and Joe and the whole pregnancy is about what are we going to call the baby. So it was really lovely actually, they were very much included."
"We settled on Bear quite early on," Winslet added. "A friend of mine when I was younger was nicknamed Bear, and I just had always really loved it."
Bear Blaze, born in December, is Winslet's first child with her current husband, Ned Rocknroll
, who was born Abel Smith and is a nephew of billionaire Virgin Group founder Richard Branson. According to EOnline.com, Rocknroll works for his uncle's Virgin Galactic commercial spaceflight company
As for the child's middle name, Blaze, the origin stems from the fact that the actress met her husband following a building fire.
"And then Bear's second name is Blaze because my husband and I met in a house fire basically," Winslet added. "And the house burned down and we survived. But we wanted something off the fire."
Ellen asked why the child took Winslet's last name rather than her husband's. Laughing, Winslet reminded her that his last name is Rocknroll, a name she is not very fond of.
On Monday, Winslet received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
