John Kerry Will Add JK After All State Department Tweets — Seriously

Monday, 04 Feb 2013 05:10 PM

By Alexandra Ward

Newly-installed Secretary of State John Kerry will reportedly include his initials at the end of all official State Department Tweets, his office announced Monday.

The problem is that, in the world of social media, "JK" is commonly read as "just kidding," meaning that Kerry's Twitter feed could soon become somewhat of a viral joke.

Kerry has long been an active Twitter user as compared to his predecessors, Hillary Rodham Clinton and Condoleeza Rice. While Clinton barely ever tweeted, Kerry has been vocal on issues ranging from sports to local news to the best cannoli shop in Boston.

The former Massachusetts senator addressed his new staff Monday, his first day in office, and acknowledged "I have big high heels to fill."

"I need your help," he said. "President Obama needs your help to help us to do everything we can to strengthen our nation and to carry those ideals out into the world. Here we can do the best of things that you can do in government."
