Republican support is waning for the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya. That upsets Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., but not Joe Scarborough, host of CNBC’s “Morning Joe” and a former Republican congressman from Florida.

“I wonder what Ronald Reagan would be saying today?” McCain has asked, as Scarborough noted in a column on Politico.

“Good question. Here’s the answer,” Scarborough says.

“The Reagan doctrine limited such events [military intervention] to a limited number of circumstances where the armed conflict is vital to American interests, where our objectives are clearly defined, where our commitment is full and overwhelming and where the war has public support. When measured next to Reagan’s tough standards, the war that McCain is backing in Libya fails miserably.”

Scarborough is glad to see a growing number of Republicans putting the brakes on military action. “That may be bad news for the champions of military adventurism, but it is great news for America,” he writes.
