Jimmy Hoffa: Wood Chipper Was Missing Teamster's End, Source Claims

Thursday, 20 Jun 2013 04:43 PM

By Morgan Chilson

Finding Jimmy Hoffa’s body has become an urban mystery that intrigues anyone with a sliver of imagination, but a source close to the investigation said it’s time to give it up.

The source told DNAInfo that Hoffa was run through a wood chipper in Inkster, Mich., after he was killed by Anthony “Tony Pro” Provenzano, a New York Mobster and Hoffa’s rival.

The source said Hoffa, 62, was meeting with mob enforcer Anthony “Tony Jack” Giacalone and Provenzano on July 30, 1975, at a restaurant north of Detroit. He disappeared after that meeting, but the source said Hoffa was strangled and then his body was put through a wood chipper, DNAInfo reported.

Leaving nothing for anyone to find, and it’s time to stop looking, the source said.

Determined investigators – amateur and professional – have continued digging for Hoffa’s body, and it’s a popular story that he may even be buried in the end zone of the Giants stadium.

This week, the FBI began a dig in Michigan, about 20 miles north of the restaurant where Hoffa was last seen, looking for Hoffa’s body. The search ended this week, with no remains found.

Such digs are a complete waste of time and money, the source told DNAInfo.

Hoffa was president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters union from 1958 to 1971, having made his way to that position after being an organizer for more than 40 years. The union under his leadership became the largest union in the United States.

He was involved with organized crime throughout his Teamsters years, and was convicted of jury tampering, attempted bribery, and fraud. He was sentenced to 13 years in prison and went to prison in 1967, but resigned as the Teamsters president and received a pardon in 1971.
