“If the devil can't defeat me, cancer doesn't stand a chance in hell! Pray for sick children who face this horrible disease 'cause The Snake will be just fine,” he told TMZ.
The popular wrestler assured TMZ he’ll be at the Jersey Championship Wrestling event in mid-March, and said he would never miss his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame in April.
“I've been close with Jake Roberts during good times and bad. Cancer is another hurdle. He's a proven fighter. HOF and he'll be there,” Gene Okerlund, another WWE Hall of Famer, wrote on the WWE website.
Online fans tweeted and commented their hopes for a successful surgery, and many referred to the challenges Roberts has overcome.
“You Beat Alcohol and drugs Jake. Cancer it's just a bigger opponent ... GO JAKE GO!” one person wrote on the TMZ article.
The news of Roberts’ cancer came out as WWE’s new network went online Monday. Signups for the network, which offers a free trial before costing $9.99 a month with a six-month commitment, were apparently good, as WWE’s Zeb Colter noted in a post: "Breaking news: It is being reported that more people have already signe dup for @WWENetwork than have joined @HelathCareGov."
