Jaguars Free Beer Tweets During Colts Game Called 'Desperate'

By Alexandra Ward   |

Using Twitter to promote something is a great idea for businesses and organizations, but the Jacksonville Jaguars took it to the extreme Thursday for its free beer promotion.

The team, which is currently in last place in the AFC South division, offered two free beers Thursday to fans who bought tickets to Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts.

The Jaguars first tweeted about the promotion Wednesday night…

…and then tweeted about it over and over and over and over and over again Thursday.

Many sports bloggers and analysts tagged the Twitter advertising as "desperate."

"The Jaguars won't sign Tim Tebow, but they will give away free beer to attract more fans to support arguably the NFL's worst team," the Orlando Sentinel wrote, referring to earlier this month when the Jaguars nixed a fan rally to sign Tebow.

The Jaguars ended up losing to the Seattle Seahawks 17-45 Thursday, leaving them with a record of 0-3. The team takes on the Indianapolis Colt Sunday at 1 p.m. EST at Everbank Field in Jacksonville.
