Former Oklahoma GOP Rep. Ernest Istook – who is credited with finding more than $100 billion hidden in Obamacare – says Congress needs to immediately rescind the $26 billion the Obama administration is now spending on the law and then tackle the rest.

Istook made his comments on Fox Business Network Wednesday – the one-year anniversary of the president signing the healthcare legislation into law.

Newsmax first reported the massive Obamacare expenditure in early March, when Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann revealed in an exclusive interview, that it was hidden in the healthcare bill.

“When you have a 2,700-page haystack you can hide a lot of needles inside of there, so a lot of this was spent in plain sight,” Istook told Fox Business Network’s Lou Dobbs.

istook, obama, healthcare, funding“I’m less concerned about the $82 billion that will automatically be spent over the next eight years, and more concerned about the $26 billion that is being spent right now by the Obama administration, which the Congress so far has done nothing to pull back,” he said

“You’re talking about a law that I believe is unconstitutional – as many people do – and still we are spending $26 billion right now,” said Istook, a distinguished fellow at The Heritage Foundation. “So first they ought to focus on rescinding as much as possible of that $26 billion and then attack the rest of it.”

Dobbs asked whether there are any signs Congress will heed his advice. Istook replied “there’s a lot of games being played on Capitol Hill – it’s tough business.”

“I give a lot of credit, of course, to the House leadership, that did voted to repeal Obamacare,” he said. “But they said their backup plan was to defund it – and they’re not going after the current funding – and you’ve got to do that in a way that is attached to must-pass legislation, to give you leverage to accomplish that. And that is not happening – we hear all sorts of different excuses.

“So Plan A: Repealing Obamacare – it didn’t work; we didn’t expect it to,” Istook continued. “But Plan B, requires a lot of effort to defund it – and they’re not being as aggressive as I certainly would like to see them be.”
