Apple will finally confirm or deny whether the new iPhone 5S will contain a fingerprint scanner, as the smart phone giant unveils the new device tomorrow, along with a cheaper model, the iPhone 5C, at the company's Cupertino, California headquarters.

Last week, a low-quality photo leaked of Apple's iPhone 5S, which is due out this fall. The photo, published on French website Nowhereelse.fr, bolstered months of speculation that the device will contain a fingerprint scanner.

The photo depicts a new part for the home button on Apple's anticipated iPhone 5S — a home button flex cable that has a new sensor affixed to the button and includes an identifier that is consistent with Apple's number scheme for parts, according to MacRumors.

Nowhereelse.fr reportedly obtained the photo from a "mole."

This past weekend, the website C Technology published clearer photos of the outside of the phone, with a revamped home button.

"The flex cable part is far more complex than that seen in the iPhone 5 or even the alleged iPhone 5S part leaked last month, containing a new square surface as well as several other components that may be related to fingerprint sensor functionality," MacRumors reported.

While Apple often changes features of the iPhone's flex cable as the internal and external design of the device evolves, there is no existing component that could account for the features of this part, which means the radical change could very well be the fingerprint scanner.

The iPhone 5S and lower-cost iPhone 5C are expected to become available Sept. 20 in the U.S. The iPhone 5C is not expected to have a fingerprint scanner, according to Boy Genius Report. Apple is known for making products available soon after unveiling them.

The iPhone 5C is rumored to retail at $400 without a contract, cheaper than the 5S's $650 retail price tag. Insiders say the plastic 5C will be available in a few different colors — yellow, green, blue, and red — and will contain many of the same features as the 5S. Apple is expected to offer the 5C for free on contract in many markets, bridging the gap with Android phones and Nokia’s Asha lineup.

The 5S is expected to have major internal upgrades, such as a faster processor, more memory, a better camera and the highly anticipated fingerprint sensor, a development that will set Apple apart from competitors and make mobile payments more secure for users. On the outside, the 5S is said to come in two colors, champagne gold and a new lighter gray color. Insiders say its new retina display will pack twice as many pixels into a panel of the same size as the current model’s display, and it will have a narrower bezel around the display.
