iPhone 5s users are among the "hungriest" when it comes to data consumption, a new study has found.
The report, compiled annually by technologies company JDSU, has ranked iPhones the highest in data usage every year since 2010, and this time the iPhone 5s outperformed phones in every market.

"For the past three years we've seen explosive growth in mobile data usage, causing operators to have to wrestle with the challenges their success is creating," Dr. Michael Flanagan, head of JDSU's business segment and author of the study, told MarketWired.com
The study determined that iPhone 5s customers use 20 percent more data than the previous iPhone model.
"Each new generation of iPhone has resulted in increases in data consumption of between 20-40 percent — even today when data use is common," Flanagan said. "Though interestingly, users of the more economically-priced iPhone 5c consume data in the range between that of the iPhone 4s and 5 users."
The JDSU study also found that people who have 4G-capable phones eat up data as compared to 3G customers.
"The faster the speeds that mobile operators provide, the more consumers swallow it up and demand more," Flanagan said. "One would expect a honeymoon period in which early adopters test their toys. But for 4G users to consistently exhibit behavior 10 times more extreme than 3G users well after launch constitutes a seismic shift in the data landscape."
