A new screenshot alleged to be from Apple's new iOS 8 mobile operating system for iPhone has surfaced on popular Chinese social network Weibo, possibly confirming earlier rumors that the forthcoming iPhone 6 will have a larger screen.

The iPhone 6 is one of the most anticipated personal electronics devices of 2014 after Apple's 2013 models — the iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S — amounted to what were essentially a plastic repackaging and slight hardware upgrade to its 2012 iPhone 5. The year saw no significant changes or advancements beyond the fingerprint scanner and the M7 motion co-processor, Mobile and Apps reported.

Normally, the iPhone home screen has four columns of apps laid out across its 4-inch screen, however the new screenshot shows five columns, potentially laid out across the previously rumored 4.7-inch screen. It could also be a screenshot from the rumored 5.5-inch "phablet" — a phone-tablet combo.

The rumor has convinced many based on the screen resolution. It appears to have a resolution of 1,600 x 966 pixels, which is not the resolution of any of the current iPhones, iPads, or iPods.

Making the new rumor all the more convincing, also seen in the screenshot are new stock apps from Apple, including iTunes Radio (currently a feature in the iTunes "Music" app), Healthbook, and CarPlay — all of which are already known or have been announced.

The rumor comes just one month before Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference, where the new iOS is expected to be seeded to software developers as it has been in recent years.

MacRumors.com reported that iOS will likely be de-emphasized at the conference to highlight Apple's new desktop operating system, OS X 10.10, codenamed "Syrah."

The website reports that many developers were taken off of the mobile team to help finish the new desktop OS in time for the conference.
