The series finale of “How I Met Your Mother” both surprised and disappointed many fans, leading to one fan’s alternate ending that is drawing attention from both sides.

Saying he was happy with all but the last two minutes of the finale, YouTube user Ricardo J Dylan posted this explanation along with his video: “I believe that this is more like the ending that we deserve and that through all this years have been waiting for, in my mind this is how I will personally remember the end of my favorite show.”

His alternate ending, much like the actual finale, drew mixed reactions.

“This would've been a great ending. I love it,” one commenter wrote.

“I'm happy that this isn't the real ending. The show is realistic and not everything can have a fairytale ending. If you don't like the real ending, that's life,” another commenter wrote.

In the series finale, it is revealed that the mother died six years prior and the main character, Ted (played by Josh Radnor), is hoping to rekindle a romance with his former girlfriend Robin (played by Cobie Smulders).

Fans shared their reactions to the finale on Twitter.

Co-creator and executive producer Craig Thomas thanked fans on Twitter.
