Some college students in Oklahoma are bringing their empty gun holsters to the classroom, wearing them to show support for proposed laws to allow concealed weapons on campus, the Tulsa World reported Wednesday.

"Some of us are wearing empty holsters as a symbol of not only showing we are in support of the concealed-carry laws being changed, but we also want people to see that there are people on campus who do have their concealed-carry license," Adrienne O'Reilly, an Oklahoma State University graduate student, told the newspaper. O’Reilly is also the state director of the Students for Concealed Carry on Campus.

O’Reilly said the group plans to encourage others to bring their holster to campus next month.

"Though the official empty holster protest will come in April, some of us want people to see that concealed-carry license holders are just like everyone else instead of continuing to allow people to stereotype us."

State lawmakers are considering three bills to ease gun restrictions on campus. One would allow anyone with a permit to carry on campus. The other two would allow faculty and those who have had gun safety training to carry their weapons on campus.
