Defying nutritional concerns and healthy eating standards, Americans will gobble down lots of candy on Halloween this year, with almost every child eating candy that day and half the adults, too, USA Today reported.

Those Halloween candy-eating stats compare to a normal day when just 24 percent of adults and kids eat candy, according to research by NPD Group.

On Halloween, adults are more likely to go for chocolate candy, while the kids love those hard, chewy candies, USA Today said, eating four of them for every one that an adult eats.

Kids wanting to eat their own chocolates gathered from trick or treating might want to figure out a place to stash their treats. Forbes reported that surveys found 81 percent of parents take some of their kids’ Halloween candy, and 46 percent do so after kids have gone to bed or school.

Shoppers will spend a whopping $2.392 billion on Halloween confections this year, Forbes said, with 74 percent of households planning to open their doors and hand out candy to mini-monsters and ghosts.

If you want to be the popular Halloween stop, you’ll lean toward chocolates, which despite the youthful love of hard candies, are ranked as the No. 1 candy pick by 72 percent of people, Forbes said. In a list of favorite chocolate candies in America, Hershey’s Reese’s were number one, followed by M&Ms and Snickers.

For those concerned about the extra calories that come from dipping into Halloween candy, the American Institute of Cancer Research broke down what it would take to exercise off specific candies.

For instance, the site pointed out, a fun-sized Kit Kat bar could be worked off in about 15 minutes just by jumping up and down to answer the door and hand out candy. A fun-sized 3 Musketeer bar, which has one of the lowest calories per serving in candies, could be worked off through 20 minutes of laundry duty.
