Disney and Marvel released their first "Guardians of the Galaxy" photo along with a synopsis last week, helping fuel "The Avengers" flame.

"Guardians of the Galaxy," part of a string of Marvel movies leading up to the 2015 summer release of "Avengers: Age of Ultron" will bring a new group of established Marvel comic book characters to the big screen.

The photo of the star-packed movie shows Zoe Saldana as Gamora; Chris Pratt as space adverturer Peter Quill; Rocket, a raccoon voiced by Bradley Cooper; pro wrestler Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer; and Groot, voiced by Vin Diesel.

Disney's released synopsis takes away some of the mystery behind the characters.

"An action-packed epic space adventure, Marvel's 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the universe," states the synopsis.

"To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the balance."

One of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" stars, Benicio Del Toro, was introduced during the closing credits of "Thor: The Dark World," which has become tradition for Marvel-related movies to connect the films together.

But Del Toro's cameo may have revealed even more about Marvel's upcoming space romp than the synopsis.

"You'll no doubt remember the wonderfully off-beat post-credit scene featuring Benicio del Toro as his 'Guardians of the Galaxy' character The Collector," MTV wrote. "In the scene, Sif and Volstagg deliver the powerful Aether to The Collector because they don't think it wise to keep it in the same location as the Tesseract. ... The biggest missing piece of the puzzle here is Thanos, the death-obsessed purple dude you saw at the end of 'The Avengers.'"

MTV said don't be surprised to find Thanos somewhere in the Guardians movie.
