On the show "Good Luck Charlie," The Disney Channel has introduced its first same-sex couple, lesbian mothers with a daughter who's a friend of Charlie's.
Disney announced its intention in June 2013 to bring a same-sex couple onto the show, and a spokesperson told TV Guide
, “This particular storyline was developed under the consultancy of child development experts and community advisors. Like all Disney Channel programming, it was developed to be relevant to kids and families around the world and to reflect themes of diversity and inclusiveness."

Many went online after the show aired this weekend to applaud Disney for showing all kinds of families.
But not everyone thinks a same-sex couple on the Disney Channel is a good idea. The activist group One Million Moms posted a warning about the episode and encouraged parents to write in protest of the subject matter.
“Unfortunately, children are now being exposed to same-sex marriage
on a network that is designed for kids. This is the last place a parent would expect their children to be confronted with topics that are too complicated for them to understand,” the organization said on its website. “Issues of this nature are being introduced too early and too soon, and it is becoming extremely common and unnecessary.”
Some online expressed their concern about a Disney show as an appropriate venue for this topic.
