A dunk by Harlem Globetrotter William “Bull” Bullard ended badly when he was almost smashed beneath a basketball hoop that crashed down during an acrobatic stunt Friday in the Honduras.
Bullard wasn’t seriously injured, although he dislocated his shoulder and got a cut above his eye, the New York Daily News reported

A YouTube video shows Bullard swinging on the hoop and then the backboard toppling and the glass raining down around the Globetrotter. He was performing his trademark “alley oop” dunk.
“When I dunk, I put my feet on the backboard, put the ball through my legs and dunk it again, so that’s the motion I was going with,” Bullard told the Daily News. “By the time I realized that the rim was coming down, it was too late, and it crashed down on me.”
After going off court for the team doctors to check him out, Bullard came back out to cheers from the crowd.
“My main thing was to get up … get cleaned up, come back out and wave to them and show them I was good,” Bullard told the Daily News. “It was a nice crowd. The injuries aren't too major. That's a blessing.”
Shattered backboards aren’t a new phenomenon for the Globetrotters; on their YouTube channel, one video shows two examples of the team raining glass onto the arena floor that happened within minutes of each other.
It’s more rare, however, that a Globetrotter finds himself underneath one of the falling backboards. Video of the near catastrophe went viral, with headlines calling the accident a near decapitation and saying Bullard was almost killed.
