Glenn Beck’s swan song on Fox News Channel Thursday was not his final broadcast of the day — he immediately moved across town in New York City to preview his new show on GBTV.com. The show will formally launch on September 12, but Beck gave a taste of things to come with a live question-and-answer program.

Anchored by new GBTV employee Raj Nair, a relaxed Beck fielded questions sent to his website. The questions ranged from the substantive to the humorous to the personal.

Several serious questions dealt directly with his departure from Fox News and some of the regrets he had.

Beck said the biggest error he made during his nearly three-year tenure at Fox News, was comments he made insinuating that President Barack Obama had a “deep-seated” anger against white people. Beck said he made the comments on “Fox and Friends,” the network’s early morning program, when he was not quite awake.

“The biggest error I made — not because necessarily it is wholly inaccurate — because the words, if you read President Obama’s book [Dreams from My Father], he talks about a white culture a lot,” Beck said. “I read that . . . and I said, ‘Oh my gosh, look at this.’

“And they asked me, and I made the now-famous statement — and I think that was the biggest mistake because . . . I meant he doesn’t look at things the same way, and that we should know and explore,” he said.

Beck was asked whether he was ever censored on Fox.

“Never. Was there anything they were concerned about? All of it,” Beck said. “If I were working for me, I would have made me nervous.”

Beck was then asked about GBTV and some of his other new ventures and how he can keep his ego in check. He said the purpose of all his new projects was to help others attain freedom and a positive world vision.

“I don’t want it to be about me,” he said. “That was the vehicle that got us where we are to be able to do the things that we have to do. I don’t want it to be me.”
