Newt Gingrich has purchased his first television advertisement of the season to be aired in Iowa.
The Gingrich campaign is seeking to build on the GOP presidential candidate’s unexpected lead over fellow candidate Mitt Romney in the all-important Iowa polls.
The one-minute spot is titled “The America We Love,” and it invokes the themes of Ronald Reagan’s legendary 1984 ad “Morning in America.” The footage features a highly produced montage of classic American scenes that include expansive countryside, gainfully employed people, uniformed Marines, a church, the Statue of Liberty, the Iowa state capitol, and the American flag.
Gingrich appears in the final segment to share the following upbeat message with the television audience: “Yes, together we can and will rebuild the America we love.”
The ad avoids any mention of other GOP presidential candidates or President Barack Obama. Instead it focuses on the positive and conveys a sense of hope for the future of the nation.
Integrated in the commercial’s background music is the inspirational soundtrack from the 1993 movie “Rudy,” the plot of which involves an unlikely college football player who lives out his longtime dream. The effect is to subtly reflect a Gingrich candidacy that has gone from a time when the majority of his staff left the campaign and he was considered a nomination afterthought to his current frontrunner status.
Now that Herman Cain has pulled out of the GOP contest, the early primaries appear to have been transformed into a two-person race between Romney and Gingrich.
