Garden Gnome Find: Woman Discovers Strange Figurine Inside Statue

By Nick Sanchez   |   Friday, 23 May 2014 11:56 AM

A garden gnome find has gone viral after a Tennessee woman accidentally broke the statue and discovered it was housing a mysterious figurine that some say resembles Jesus.

"My friend opened the door, and it dropped and fell. I went to pick up the pieces and noticed something inside it," Heather Andrews told NBC's WSMV Nashville.

Andrews, 27, and her friend Jillian Pozzi have long exchanged ceramic gnomes as a gag after seeing an episode of South Park that featured "underpants gnomes." The pair remain baffled by the figure they found, which is fused to the top and bottom of the gnome's interior, and appears to be the head of Jesus on the body of a woman.

"I think the face has really intricate detail and someone spent a lot of time on the face," said Andrews. "The anatomy on the body looks feminine to me, but I don't know. I am just biased to it, I guess."

Andrews was so curious about the gnome that she broke all of her other gnomes searching for similar treasures. Unfortunately, she didn't find a thing.

With a healthy sense of both humor and curiosity, Andrews recently started a public Facebook page for the figurine, which she's named Pete.

"We don't know what's in the inner statue and we don't want to break it without knowing what it is. We hope it's NOT drugs," she wrote Thursday night on the page, which already has more than 10,000 followers. She refers to the followers as "Gnomies," perhaps a play on the word "homies," and has announced ambitions to get featured on the Ellen DeGeneres talkshow.

The mystery could potentially be over, however, after one super-sleuth Facebook fan recently found a picture of an angel figurine that appears to be a dead ringer for the interior statue, ABC's WRIC 8 reported.

"Must have been made at the same factory as these and feel [sic] into the gnome mold," the fan wrote.
