The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) raked in a record $18.1 million in the second quarter, the group announced Thursday.

The previous high came in the first quarter — $17.7 million. The DSCC garnered 2.5 million alone in the three days starting June 28, when the Supreme Court upheld most of the healthcare reform law. The group drew $8 million for all of June, Politico reports.

Democrats have to be happy with the total, given that they generally trail Republicans big-time in national fundraising so far this election cycle. The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) attracted $15 million in the first quarter. The NRSC hasn’t announced its totals for the second quarter yet.

As for the DSCC, it now has $31.4 million of cash in the bank and has raised $77.7 million so far in this election cycle. It says 99 percent of its donations have come from small contributions of $200 or less.

The fundraising numbers take on added importance as the two parties battle it out for control of the Senate. Republicans need a net gain of only four seats to regain the majority.
