A new poll shows Florida voters are lukewarm about plans to bring destination resort casinos to the Sunshine State, but a big majority think it will give the economy a big jolt.

The Quinnipiac University poll found 48 percent support the building of casinos, compared to 43 percent who don’t.

But voters, by a 61 percent to 33 percent margin, said casinos would boost the state’s economy. And Floridians — 73 percent to 22 percent — said they do not have any moral objection to gambling.

The poll of 1,412 voters was released Tuesday, a day after the state Senate passed a bill to bring casinos to Florida. It was conducted Jan. 4-8 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.6 percentage points.
